Carpooling
With gas prices on the rise, it is getting increasingly difficult for some of us to do much traveling. In an effort to ease this burden a bit for those who wish to volunteer at the Portola Railroad Museum, we are going to try instituting a
"Extra Ride Board" on this website. If you need a ride or want a ride, simply e-mail the details to Eugene Vicknair at If you want to offer a ride,
please send us your name, a contact e-mail, how many you can comfortably carry, what your route will be (and how far you would be willing to deviate from it to pick someone up) and when you are traveling to and from the museum. If you need a
ride, please send your name, a contact e-mail, where you are coming from and when you want to go. Also, include any easy to reach locations you can easily get to in order to meet a ride. Part of sharing a ride also includes sharing the COST.
It can cost $30-50 for a roundtrip just in gas depending on distance and gas mileage. Riders should be willing to help share this expense and should negotiate a fair split with the driver before hand. Hopefully, if enough people are willing
to join in, we can make it easier and less expensive to volunteer at the museum. And it's a lot nicer to make the trip with fellow members than alone.
